Dear Friends,
Christ is in our midst!
This lesson invites children to learn about death, what happens to the soul after death, and the Final Judgment, according to the teachings of our holy Orthodox Church. The Church provides us with truths that are at once beautiful, comforting, and sobering, guiding our youth toward a healthy understanding of these spiritual realities.
Designed for K–7th grade, this 75–90 minute lesson equips teachers, catechists, and parents with everything needed to present these foundational concepts with clarity, peace, and age-appropriate depth.
Here is a glimpse of what you will find inside this edition:
The Journey of the Soul: Clear, patristic teachings on what happens to the soul after death and the benefit of prayers for the departed, drawing from Life After Death, a description of the first 40 days after death by St. John Maximovitch.
The Final Judgment: A study of the Gospel reading for Meatfare (Judgment) Sunday (Matthew 25:31-46) and the Works of Mercy as part of our preparation for Christ’s Second Coming, with additional, in-depth content for older students.
Iconography Study: A guided, step-by-step visual breakdown of the Icon of the Final Judgment.
Age-Specific Breakouts: Tailored activities for every group—from coloring pages and simple memory verses for K–1st graders, to deeper theological discussions and related essay assignments for older students.
As always, reading materials for teachers are included for review beforehand to ensure adequate preparation to guide students through the lesson.
